What is an interview ?
An interview is a meeting or conversation between two or more people, an interviewer and the interviewee. Questions are asked by the interviewer to obtain information from the interviewee.
What is a Resume, or Curriculum Vitae (CV) ?
A resume or CV is a professional introduction document. It is one or two page summary of your education, skills, accomplishments, life history and experience. The purpose of the document is to introduce you to a potential employer to induce an interview opportunity that may lead to a job offer. The résumé or CV is the first item that a potential employer encounters regarding the job seeker, and therefore a large amount of importance is often ascribed to it.
What is Body Language ?
Body language is a broad term which describes all forms of human communication that is not verbal language. These forms of communication include, using body movements or gestures instead of, or in addition to, sounds, and speech. They also include the most subtle of movements that many people are not aware of, including winking and slight movement of the eyebrows. In addition body language can also incorporate the use of facial expressions.
What is a Job Description ?
The purpose of a job description is to allow an employer, to account for all aspects of the job they have to offer.
A job description is a written statement summarizing the most important duties and responsibilities of a particular job, or occupation. This will include such items as the job purpose, skills required, working conditions, duties, equipment used, qualifications, training, physical and mental demands, working conditions, pay etc. A job description should describe and focus on the job itself and not on any specific individual who might fill the job.
A job description clearly defines what the job is about and what can be expected from the job, and so it benefits both you and your employee to be clear as to what the job will entail.
What is an interview plan ?
An Interview Plan is a process that helps you fully prepare for all aspects of the interview, including, identify the requirements of the job that you're interviewing for, consider the most likely questions you will be asked, and also the unexpected ones, then develop answers for both types of question.
What are References ?
Before a prospective employer will hire you, they will generally ask you to provide references from your former employers. The references an employer gets about a job seeker can make the difference between a job offer and a rejection letter. Every job seeker therefore needs to have a list of references - people who will speak of your skills and abilities, so you should learn who to ask for letters of reference and how to ask for them.
What is a second interview ?
The second interview is sometimes referred to as a final stage selection interview or as an assessment center. Your first with an employer may have lasted 30-40 minutes and consisted of a discussion with one or two company representatives. If you have been invited for a second interview, you should be prepared for a much more intensive procedure. You are more likely to do yourself justice if you have some idea of what to expect, you recognize the purpose behind the various exercises and you are prepared.
Second interviews give employers an opportunity for exploring in much greater detail the potential match between yourself and the organization. Some companies will tell you in advance what is in store, others don't. However, if there is anything you do not understand, ask questions. Second interviews can be a real test of good humor and endurance - but remember that the final interview is usually the most important.
What are Interview assessments or psychometric tests ?
Psychometrics is the field of study concerned with the theory and technique of psychological measurement. These qualities can be broken down into three groups as follows, your work skills, your social and emotional qualities, and your aspirations and values
Increasingly, employers use psychometric tests as one of their selection tools. Tests may measure your ability in areas such as knowledge, abilities, attitudes, and personality traits verbal, numerical or diagrammatic reasoning.
They aim to assess your aptitude for specific job-related skills (e.g. IT) and to help employers to predict your potential job performance.
